DUBAI, UAE 17 AUGUST 2026 –. Spiro, Africa’s leading electric mobility company, today announced the appointment of Huy Chieu as Chief Development Officer (CDO).
Huy joins Spiro with nearly three decades of global automotive and electric vehicle experience spanning vehicle engineering, product development, manufacturing, supply chain and operational scale-up. Over the course of his career at General Motors, VinFast and Hero MotoCorp, he has worked across North America, China, India, Southeast Asia and Europe. He has led large engineering organisations, developed vehicle platforms across internal combustion, hybrid and electric technologies, and delivered complex, high-volume vehicle programmes from concept to market.
As Chief Development Officer, Huy will report to Anant Badjatya, Group CEO of Spiro, and lead the company’s end-to-end product development and operationalisation, supporting Spiro as it continues to strengthen its products, engineering capabilities, manufacturing footprint and supply chain across Africa.
His appointment comes at a pivotal stage in Spiro’s growth. The company has more than 120,000 electric motorcycles on the road, operates over 2,500 battery-swapping stations and has completed more than 47 million battery swaps to date. Spiro is continuing to scale its operations and deepen the localisation of its value chain as it builds an increasingly integrated electric mobility ecosystem across the continent.
